Internet Supersearcher Class for State Employees

Search tips:

  • Search Local - For large, complex websites (large federal agencies, for example) use search box provided on website
  • Learn as You Go - Use items found in search results (prominent authors, unique terminology, potential source websites) to refine your search
  • Long Titles - Cut and paste titles of books and articles in phrase search with quote marks - if there are no results, try breaking the search into a couple of shorter phrase searches
  • Searching History? - for historical information, use Google Books - and "tools" link to limit results to "free Google ebooks"
  • Get News on Your Topic - use Google News to find newspaper, magazine, newsblog, etc. sources
  • Create Alerts - use Google Alerts to get emailed same-day updates on new webpages, news stories, etc. for your favorite searches
  • Alternatives to Google - Google search  |  Bing search
