Grey Literature Resources for Finding Government Information

Grey Literature is defined as “that which is produced on all levels of government, academics, business and industry in print and electronic formats, but which is not controlled by commercial publishers”. Examples include papers, reports, technical note

Intro

Grey literature is produced by researchers and authors, based in organizations often funded by the public, whose main purpose is not commercial or professional publishing, which creates problems for its distribution, findability and use. There is no investment in organizing or managing this literature, because it isn’t making anyone any money. The documents are usually published to websites or distributed via email newsletters and discovered through search engines or possibly repositories or libraries. Sometimes they aren’t published at all, but only distributed via internal channels of government and organizations.
