These are a selection of free mobile apps that focus on language learning or translation. (Some apps may have in-app purchases, though.)

Duolingo
Duolingo is a free language-learning platform that includes a language-learning website and app, as well as a digital language proficiency assessment exam. Available for iOS, Android, and Windows phones.
Google Translate
Google's free service instantly translates words, phrases, and web pages between English and over 100 other languages. Available for iOS and Android phones.
Memrise
Memrise is an app that uses flashcards as memory aids. Similar to Duolingo in that it uses gamified learning. Available for iOS and Android.
SpeakTribe
A pronunciation app with a focus on speaking and listening. Includes conversation practice and interactive chat sessions. Available for iOS and Android.
Wlingua
Learn Spanish through a variety of courses on the app. Plans for both basic (free) and premium (cost based on length of time). Available for iOS and Android.
