About the OIFC

The Oregon Intellectual Freedom Clearinghouse (OIFC) was established in 1987 with the primary mission to collect and compile information concerning intellectual freedom in libraries and schools in Oregon. 

To this end, the State Library of Oregon:

• Encourages Oregon libraries and schools to report on challenges to library materials, services, and programs.
• Writes and distributes an annual report on challenges in Oregon, based on received reports. (See What's Been Challenged)
• Maintains a title index of materials challenges which summarizes all the reported materials challenges in Oregon from 1987 to the present, based on received reports. (See What's Been Challenged)
• Submits received reports annually to the American Library Association’s Office of Intellectual Freedom.
• Supports the Intellectual Freedom Committee of the Oregon Library Association in their effort to increase awareness of intellectual freedom.
